CLIL PROJECT: THE PLANTS IN THE CITY.

 1. GROUP PROFILE.

We are in rural school situated in a small village near a forest.

In the classroom, there are 20 preprimary  kids; they have English class twice a week.

Timing to develope the project: 15 days in Spring.

This project isn´t closed.  It is open everytime and everyday because the kids can suggested new ideas in a direct or indirect way.

2. AIMS.

- Know different shops in our city.

- Compare distances using the body, graffics and google maps.

- Role playing "Shops": sellers and customers.

-Create a factory.

- Constrast different parts and kind of plants.



3. CULTURE.

- Shops and factories: different jobs like packer, seller, ilustrator, accountant.

Our factory will have a donation  to one ONG. 

- Plants: deforestation (multicultural problem in the world using the tale of Wangari)  and reforestation (with new seeds of trees to plant at school first and then, in the city)


4. CONTENT

4.1. Global subjects: maths, sciencie, first and second language.

4.2. Competencies: mathematic, digital, social and linguistic.

5. COMMUNICATION.

5.1. Vocabulary:

- Jobs in a factory.

- Names, uses and parts of plants.

- Places on the city

5.2. Grammar structures:

- Has/have got- hasn´t/haven´t got.

- Colours.

- Shops and their products.

- How much is it? It´s .......

- Where are you going? I am going to.....

- Instructions to give directions: turn left/right, cross, straight on...

5.3. Skills:

- Listening and speaking about spaces of our city and shops.

- Bingo to associate sounds with shops or spaces of the city.

- Shops mockup (maqueta de tiendas y sus productos con palillos).

- Songs: Spring of Vivaldi.

- Memory and Card Games: "Where are you going?"

- Orientation games : "The map in the sand".

- Google maps to compare distances in our city and make graffics.

- Videos: "Wangari and the peace trees".

6. COGNITION

- Plants: classification, parts and uses.

- Orientation in a map and compare distances between shops or spaces in the city (Google maps)

- Money: count coins and solve maths problems.

-Use web to look for images of plants and create a LAP BOOK.



7. TASKS.

- Draw a map of our city.

- Create purple colour mixing red and blue, to design "Lavander pictures."

- Design a poster to our "LAVANDER AIR FRESHENER".

- Field trip to collect lavander ( for the FACTORY) and take photos of different kinds of plants for the LAP BOOK.

- Create a flower herbarium: make rhymes with plant names and search for their image on the web; then print them and make a collage (images-rhymes):

p.ej. "Qué bonitas, las margaritas"....generamos las rimas, escribimos, buscamos en la web margaritas, imprimimos y vamos montando collage por parejas.

- Create a KAHOOT about the tale of Wangari to share with another classmates in the school and speak about deforestation and reforestation in a global sense (...)

- Plant seeds and look after our little trees.

- Final TASK: FACTORY LAVANDER AIR FRESHENER (with the participation of every kids of school and finally donation to ONG)

8. SCAFFOLDING ACTIVITIES.

8.1. Pair work:

- Look for images of plants on the web.

- Create a collage with rhymes and images of flowers.

- Liveworksheets to: Classificate kinds of plants, name parts of plants....

8.2. Whole class:

- Bingo: sounds and images city.

- Orientation game: "Map on the sand".

- Create rhymes with flowers.

- Field trip and collect lavander.

- Compare distances in the city with google maps and make graffics with stickers.

-Tale "Wangari",speaking about deforestation and KAHOOT.

- Game of cards with shops and products: who leave all the cards win (un montón con tiendas y otro montón con productos; se saca una tienda y se reparten 5 cartas a cada niñ@; se comienza la ronda para dejar carta y el que no pueda dejar ninguna tendrá que coger una nueva).

8.3. Group work:

- Jobs in our factory.

- Design adverts to the factory.

-Design poster to kind of the plants.

- Role playing: shops and products.

- Look after our little trees.

8.4. Individual work:

- Draw the map of my city.

- Create the shop MOCKUP.

- Create the parts of my LAPBOOK

- Complete flowers names (without vowels).

- Look for the correct rhymes with flash cards.

- Liveworksheets about coins y vocabulary city.

9. RESOURCES AND MATERIALS. 

Seeds, PC, printer, Google maps, coins, art materials, ....

10. EVALUATION.

The evaluation is:

- Global about: contents, competencies and level languages,  across direct observation and diary register.

- Continuos, monitoring the work everyday, detecting problems or difficulties and testing the different items the project to improve it if it´s necessary.

- Final, we can know the best and the worst of the project speaking with the kids or ask for a picture the best and the worst about it, at last we will have a rubric to evaluate the project and the kids like this:

We start the sesion with the daily rutines:

EMOTIONS.

SECRET WORD: FOREST  (.....)

Visit to the forest:

LISTENING: with the movile phone and GOOGLE MAPS we  have to listen the intructions to know the way to the forest and observe the places along the way (church, pharmacy, city hall-park)

In the forest we organize 2 groups in order to their tasks:

GROUP 1:  

Task: Make a poster to categorize 3 kinds of plants (árboles-arbustos-hierbas)

They need to take photos of the plants to create a poster and teach/explain another group in class about them.

GROUP 2: 

Task: Make an advert for our shop: "Lavander Air Freshener" with a slogan.

They need to colletc lavander seeds and keep them in little bags to create the air freshener for the shop.

When they finish, they can choose 4 activities in different spaces of the classroom:

- Library with books about forest.

- Shops to play: sellers and customers.

- Maths space: to build a forest with different toys parts.

- Digital space: with puzzles about the forest.

 FREE GAMES IN PLAYGROUND. 

Finally:

Sumarize activities: 

MY GOOGLE MAP:  Whit this BIG map (like a carpet in the floor), all together remember the way to arrive the forest. Then, they put stickers (and count one, two... until twenty) from the school at the forest, remembering and choicing the correct places that we saw on the way: school-church-pharmacy-city hall-park-forest.

 At the end, everydody talk about the best/worst of the day and draw about it.

Then, we have the rutines to end the day: 

Relax forest music like "Spring of Vivaldi" and take the bags, coats... and go at home.
